Just 20 minutes away from Cork International Airport, Fota Island is a small island, just north of the larger island of Cóbh, in Cork Harbour. A short 15 minute drive will take you to Cork city with its English Market and wide choice of galleries, museums and theatres. Fota Island is an ideal location for exploring southern Ireland.
Fota Wildlife Park and Fota House & Gardens are located on Fota Island. Fota Wildlife Park is Ireland's only wildlife park, comprising 50 acres of mature grassland with more than 70 species of exotic wildlife including ostriches, giraffes, kangaroos, zebras and antelope, in open natural surroundings.
Another attraction on Fota Island is The 18th century historic Fota House is a magnificent building owned by the Irish Heritage Trust. On the grounds of the house are wonderful ornamental gardens with a structured arboretum, walled garden and terraces.
Fota Island 18-hole golf course is one of Ireland's very scenic and challenging courses, and hosted the Murphy's Irish Open golf tournament in 2001 and 2002.
