The village of Baltimore on the beautiful southwest coast of Cork, is half-way between the busy tourist destinations of Dingle and Kinsale. Although off the busy tourist trail itself, Baltimore attracts many visitors from elsewhere in Europe and all over the world.
Baltimore has some of the most spectacular scenery in west Cork and there are many sights to see and things to do that will interest any tourists to that part of west Cork.
Activities like sailing, angling and whale watching attract many visitors to Baltimore. Scuba diving is another major attraction because of the number of shipwrecks in the bay, including a World War Two submarine. Baltimore is also the main ferry port to Cape Clear and Sherkin Island and seasonal ferries run to Heir Island and Schull.
There are some major events in Baltimore each year such as Baltimore Wooden Boat & Seafood Festival which is a celebration of the traditional timber sailing boats of Ireland. The rich heritage of the area is explored at the Baltimore Heritage Festival each April.
Visit O'Driscoll Castle, overlooking the town, which was recently restored and is open to the public.
