Located beside the River Lee on the R608 regional road, Ballincollig is a satellite town situated about 8km west of Cork. Ballincollig is a good base from which to discover the south coast of Ireland.
When visiting Ballincolling there are many sights to see and things to do that will interest any tourists to the south of Ireland.
Ballincollig has several attractions of interest such as Ballincollig Castle, a Norman castle to the south of the town, built after the Norman invasion of Ireland.
On the north side of the town is the Ballincollig Royal Gunpowder Mills with its visitor centre and museum.
Musician Rory Gallagher is buried at St Oliver's Cemetery, just outside Ballincollig and his headstone is a replica of an award he received in 1972 for International Guitarist of The Year.
